I finally got around to painting my stockers.

No pictures on the car yet (some will follow), but here they are.

1. Put the car on jack stands and remove rims (obviously loosen the lugs before lifting the car).
2. Remove the wheel weights.
3. Sand the entire wheel with 220 grit sand paper, including back.
4. Wash and dry the rims. I used brake cleaner to assist in removing some of the built up grunge, followed by water, and then an air compressor to assist in drying.
5. Line up all 4 rims, and start on one side. Spray one coat and move to the next rim. When finished start over until you have 3 base coats.
6. Repeat step 5 with the clear coat (I actually did 4 coats of clear, but 3 should be fine).
7. Allow to dry, and learn from my mistakes by following step 8.
8. Slowly put on the lug nuts! If you put your tire iron around the lug and just spin it like you would normally you'll chip the paint.
9. Make sure to go get the rims balanced and the lugs torqued to spec (75 ft/lbs iirc).

Looks good. What paint did you use? I ask because these look almost exactly like mine.

It's cool, we're here to share lol.

I snapped a picture of the can just in case someone asked. I was going to gunmetal, but they didn't have any. I picked this up instead, Graphite.

Dr pepper FTW! :D

That looks sweet! I am going to have to do this with the stockers from the wagon I am getting. :)

Camera phone pictures for now. I'm giving it 72 hours to make sure they cure all the way before I wash them and the rest of the car. Once I do that I'll take some better pictures.

Right after balancing the rims.

Pic when I got to work after having them balanced.

looks good, and great write up. I'm still waiting on someone to paint their wheels cherry blossom.

good clean look. did you do anything to prep the wheels like sanding or did you just make sure they were super clean before painting? ive been thinking about doing mine.

Oh ya I guess I never posted the "how" part. I edited the first post and included it.

Still crappy camera phone pictures with them on the car, but you get the idea.

an easy tip instead of using newspaper and tape.. take index cards and stick them between the wheel and the tire all the way around. works really well and no taping ftw.
