^yeah but the initial price is a deterrent. I need to look into a miata though, probably could be had for ~6k

True and if it breaks you still have your dd and miata parts are easily had these days.

my youtube "recommended for you" videos are coming up with alot of "2 step launch control" videos lately. What does "2step" mean and is this any different than the launch control on my car??

The launch control on my WRX will build about 12-15psi off the line. Not sure how much boost i build on my 08 tho. Probably around the same.
