There is a few companies that make FMIC for your car. In my opinion it doesnt make the car slower, its cooler air. The charge piping should always be filled with air as the turbo is always spinning while the car is running. Depending on how much you want to spend, depends on how well the inter cooler will fit the car. I know Cosworth FMIC for the 08 STi requires no trimming to the bumper to make it fit (ive seen it in person) But there is also Perrin, Ultimate Racing and a couple others that make kits for the 08 wrx. I dont think trimming the bumper is a big deal as long as its done nicely with the proper tools to make the lines straight.

I always had a negative misconception about FMICs til I got one and now I'm sold

However, I top mount will do you just fine too.
