Slowly saving up for a new spring/strut combo. I've narrowed the springs down to either H-Techs or Prodrive Blues, but I'm pretty clueless on struts. I plan on tracking the car eventually, once I upgrade the brake setup a little bit, but it's a daily more than anything, and I don't want a slammed ride either. What are your opinions on struts? I've heard good things about Tanabe, but that's about it.

Also, is there anything else I would need to purchase with these? Tophats, camber plates, etc?

If you really want upgraded struts, go for STi. They really are great struts for the $. Just make sure you match them to the right springs.

How many miles do you have on the car??

You know... you can just buy a decent set of springs, and your car will handle MUCH better... even with the stock struts.

I'm at a little over 50k right now. I have no idea what the lifespan for struts are, but I kind of figured I should take care of them while I'm down there. But if I don't need to mess around with them, I wont.

Agreed. Throw some higher rate springs on them and they can be VERY capable. If you really want better dampers you can also get Koni inserts for them, good stuff!

I'm not a big fan of C/Os unless they are the higher-end stuff. They ride harsh and require regular maintainance, as well as corner weighting in order to assure proper handling. Not worth it to me on a daily driver.

Yeah, I'm not too big on coilovers. The good ones cost too much, with too much maintenance for my needs.

^^^^ Agreed. Cool to have... but lots of $$$, constant upkeep, adjustments. If I had a dedicated track car, sure..... but on a daily driver, it's just more hassle than it's worth.

I'm at 44k miles.... and my stock struts still feel great on the Eibachs.

With that... I'm looking at going with newer, more performance oriented set...... but I'm not in a rush at all... my car does great at the track.... particularly for a DD.... I'm happy :)

I say start with a GOOD (don't go cheap) set of springs..... then see what you think.... see if you want to go further.

Yeah, going cheap has never been a specialty of mine. I want to see if I can get a ride with someone that has prodrives, and then another with the H-techs. Ha.

I run 06 WRX struts with 04 STi springs. They are a GREAT match, and STi springs go cheap. The rates are perfect and drop is ~1". If you're at one of the meets, I'll take you for a ride.
