So me and my buddy are having a debate brought on by toyotas recent problems. I say that on a stock car, your brakes will almost always be able to overcome the power of your engine. He says this is never true and and a wot engine will accelerate despite full brakeing. Kinda dumb but I want to see what you guys have to say about it!

Like this test. Floored throttle, floored brakes.

Hmmm.... in my old Studebaker if I floor the brakes and the throttle I make quite the smoke show. But then again those are manual drum brakes lol.

I've done it with a lexes 250 and the brakes got hot as **** but stopped the car from freeway speeds to a complete stop. People are dumb.... end of story.

Plenty of people have done plenty of tests on this, by the way. I'm still not sure why this is a giant debate. (Not just here.) I'm not trying to marginalize the death of anyone, it's still a tragic no matter what the circumstances. But let's say, for instance, you have the time, collection, and clear presence of mind enough to call 911, why can't you put the car in neutral and turn off the ignition? I may be a dick, but it sound like Herbert Spencer was right along, and his point continues to be proven, time and time again. (Survival of the fittest.)

I find it hard to believe that anything can go 90 MPH for more than a burst anywhere around San Diego, let alone 20 minutes. I classify that scenario in the same group as balloon boy. A publicity stunt. If I was coherant enough to call the police while piloting a Prius at 90mph through the streets of San Diego, I could probably figure out how to stop the car... Jesus, if he was actually going as fast as he said he was for as long as he said he was, he needs a spot in the f1 circuit now, cuz that's some impressive maneuvering.

^ Exactly what I was thinking.. Nobody can be that incompetent to not put the car in neutral or just turn it off and go straight till you stop. He wants attention.

Not to mention it happens after the whole Toyota problems hit crisis mode? What great timing....

I have an idea... some of these people don't deserve to drive a car. take the bus you tools that can't drive!
and stop giving a company that has brought us some great cars and trucks alone. I honestly think some of these people need to sign a waver if they die from sheer dumbness then they died.... o well. I agree with awdenvy survival of the fittest. :gun:
